Will, Passions, and the Manly Body c. 1760-1860

I am fresh back from a great cross-disciplinary conference at Oxford Brookes University called ‘Bodies in Question: Theorising the Body from an Interdisciplinary Perspective ’. The  event buzzed with interest and inevitably, there is never enough time to discuss the fascinating issues that arise.

DrunkardI gave a paper on the relationship between the concept of being unmanly, the restraint of emotions and the body, and definitions of insanity. I’ve blogged about some of the issues already here.
